Recommended Starting Proceedure for 2006 Suzuki DR650

This winter I bought a 2006 Suzuki DR650 with only 500 miles that was running great a few weeks ago but now will not start. There is no owners manual so I do not know the proper starting proceedure and is frustrating the heck out of me. It has fuel (new) and the battery stays on a tender. All the lights and nuetral indicator works properly when the key is turned on. The starter sounds normal and battery strength seems normal but may need to be tested - engine turns and attempts to start but it will not turn over. I thought I was flooding it because the exhaust pipe and bike in general smells like gas so I think it is getting flooded or rich on gas. I removed the plugs and replaced with identical NKG plugs. Tomorrow I will double check the fuel line and start fiddling with the carb. There is not a big enough hill to get a rolling start or enough momentum to jump it off. Please reply if you have any ideas or if you can tell me proper starting procedure and how to use the choke, I would appreciate it.
