Purchased a 1996 VFR750 three years ago in truly immaculate condition having done less than 4k. Couple of problems regarding comfort. 1st. Bars were too low Solution - Genmar risers. Makes a difference of just under an inch but in Reality they have eliminated the ache I used to get between the shoulders although I would like them about another inch higher. 2ed. Screen was not high enough. Solution - I live for the most part in Freiburg, southern Germany, and less than 10 miles away are MRA screens, I phoned them and took my bike to there factory. They fitted a touring screen (the one with a spoiler ) and told me to try it for a few days and if I was not happy they would re-fit my original screen at no cost. It only took me a few minutes of autobahn driving to realise that this totally transformed the comfort of anything above 60mph. The quality is excellent and the service typical German..Very good. 3rd. Cold Hands. Solution - Genuine Honda 360 degree heated grips. Off E-Bay from Tippets in Surbiton Genuine Honda dealers about £100. 4th. Cold Body. Solution - EXO Stormrider. Very warm and uses little electricity, which is something that must be remembered on the VFR as the generator is a little short on power when you add the grips. 5th. Lighting. Solution - Phillips extreme are better than the standard bulbs, Here in Germany there are no ´cat´s eyes´ and no speed limit on about a third of the autobahns. It is not the main beam that was a problem but the dip.. I would consider fitting a complete HID kit but there seems so much difference of opinion between suppliers, users, and the law. Hopefully I will meet someone one day with one fitted, so I can make my own mind up. 6th. Luggage. Solution - Bagster tank cover, Perfect fit, with expandable tank bag. Only problem is that with it expanded it is impossible to see any of the instruments. Thinking of a Hepco & Baker rack and a couple of Pelican cases, can´t be difficult to make some fixing brackets. have a look at Pelican if you don´t already know them, they are stronger than anything made for bikes, only problem is that you will end up with a side loader with maybe not the width you desire. Footnotes. On a couple of products I have had. DID extreme X ring chain 5 star. TCX infinity boots 5 star. Arai Quantum 2 star, many problems with this helmet, but the comfort is superb. Fieldsheer blke pants in leather, £60 new off E-Bay from a seller in Teignmouth, Devon. For the price 5 star. Aldi, do not know what it´s called but it slips over the base layer has a high neck with a slanted zip on the left side of the neck.. Excellent and cheap. 5 star. and there base layers also seem good, I have three pairs also 5 Star. But not as warm as my Marino wool but easier to wash and less than a quarter of the price. Advice......... Only use genuine oil filters. Carry a spare regulater with you. I hope this info is usefull to you. From a very happy VFR owner with a final thanks to Honda for producing such a gem of a machine. |
