Sputters and gets poor gas milage |

I have a 1975 Yamaha RD350B I´m resurrecting and no matter what I try, it sputters a bit at lower RPM´s (4000 & below or so) and gets poor gas mileage (15-20 MPG). It has expansion chambers (not sure what kind but simular to DG), and a Pro-flo 2 into 1 K&N filter and I put new OEM rings on it. I´ve tried various jets, 160, 190 & 220 mains and 25, 27.5 and 30 pilot jets (it´s currently on 27.5 and 220) and set the needle to the 4th position. I´m thinking that maybe my reed valves are worn (but they seem to close all the way properly) and am considering Boyesen power reeds. Any suggestions to fix this perplexing problem? It still goes like a bat out of hell and I´ve gotten it up to 100 MPH briefly, as I can´t afford a ticket! Regards, Howard |
