Hi Gary. You can find the manual for your bike go to the harley davidson website and search for manuals. They do have one for all the 2005 sportster models. They run about $60.00 but I hear it´s well worth it. I am going to buy one soon also. Any problems finding it on the harley site and I will help you out my friend. As for knowing if about the differance to the latest xl 883 model. I am not sure because I just bought a 883 xl and it´s my first motorcycle ever but I hear they ride alot better compared to older sportsters. Also I will try to search for other sites for the xl 883 and see if I can come up with something for you.
