SL350 burning oil, from where?

My SL350 puts out a healthy(?) cloud of blue smoke (from left tail pipe) when I accelerate after coasting down a hill. The left sparkpluk also fouls with oil.

Is this most likely from too much Intake valve guide clearance, or from a worn/broken oil ring.

I replaced both pistons about 2000 miles ago, following a hole melted through the left piston (running too lean). My compression is fine, at 170/180 pounds for the left/right side.

Thanks,
Larry in Pasadena, CA
