Most sellers of a 1973 Honda CB 500-4 tend to want way more than what they are worth. Since Honda made so many 550s and 750s the value of a 500 is debatable. I have heard the statement that a 500 in museum quality shape is not worth more than $1500. Given the description that you have provided I would estimate that the bike should be worth around $400-$500 at the most. You should check the gas tank for rust through as they are getting hard to replace.

Make sure that all the parts are with it including a key.

I gave around $400 for mine but have ended up spending at least that much in restoration.

Ask yourself this: "Do I want to put $1000 in a $500 dollar bike".

One thing about it though. If you can get it running and looking good you will have more fun on that bike than you can possibly imagine. If you are reasonably competent as a mechanic then I would say buy it, fix it, and ride it. Mine now has 40,000 miles on it and will still tach out at 9 grand and I´ve been having a blast on it.
