| John; The F-9 engine I used was a brand new "crate motor" obtained from the (then) Kawasaki Parts Distributorship somewhere in Dallas or Grand Prairie, Texas.. My sponsor, a Kawasaki dealership in Sherman, Texas, purchased the engine in late ´70.. so it´s not out of the question that it was a ´70 model, although I don´t believe there was any difference between ´70 and ´71. Additionally, it was, indeed, an F-9 engine, I did install the F-81M Close-Ratio gears in the transmission as well as cutting off all the "air box" metal and removing the entire kick-start system. The engine is fitted into a ´67 Bridgestone 350 GTR Frame with 18" Boranni Alloy rims with Goodyear Roadrace tires(2.75x18 front, 3.00x18 rear that I fitted at the last race at Dallas International Raceway) along with a ´70 Honda CB-750 Front Hub and Disk Brake on the front. The entire bike weighs 225lbs "wet". To get the thing to go faster than 75MPH, I also fitted the Kawai 500 triple (H-1) Clutch Hub and the 750 triple (H-2) Crankshaft gear.. I had a special "spacer" made so the 750´s crank gear would fit the F-9´s crank.. I was running a 15/30 final drive sprocket set with a 530 chain (fuzzy memory recalls the stock chain was a 428.. don´t hold me to that, tho). I know I fitted a Mikuni Carb to the highly modified Rotary Valve cover, and 40mm comes to mind (but it might be a 42 or 44).. In order to get enough fuel to this huge carb, not to mention to prevent fuel starvation when banked in either direction, I ran two 3/8" fuel lines (one from each side of the Fiberglas roadracing tank) to a "tee" that then fed the carb. As I noted to another poster, I have the original Kevin Cameron "specs" around here somewhere (packed away), I followed Kevin Cameron´s engine modification specs to the letter, no "other" mods were made (or needed-- except those mentioned above).. I´m glad to hear Kevin is still around and dispensing his excellent advice. It´s good to hear the ol´ F-9´s are still competing.. although I suspect they are racing on dirt-tracks, not high-speed roadrace courses.. Please correct me if I´m wrong. |
