Help with my 1950-60 triumph 4 speed transmission

I have a 1945 flathead harley chopper with a 4 speed triumph tranny with a right side shifter and kicker. However it will no longer kick over, it kicks like it wants to hook up with something but there isnt anything to hook up with if anyone has any information id really appreciate it. Thanks
