Checking oil level

Checking oil level

Anybody else have trouble checking the oil level? I follow the instructions in the manual and get wildly different readings. If it shows low and I add oil, then it is overfull. I always keep the bike straight up and screw the dipstick in each time. Any tips? Tom.,California.
