i had the same problem with my 95 vfr.i trouble shouted the bike and found that it was the regulater rictifire that is located on the right rear side of the frame.when it gets old theye cant handle the heat from the frame and theye shut down.the same thing was happening with my charging system.the dealer is looking for about500.00 for a new one.i found a brand new one on line for 100.00 its ben in my bike and 25000 miles later its still working fine.if you have a volt meter i could tell you how to trouble shoot it before you go hunting one down.but if i had to geuss i would have to say that was the problem it is a very coman problem with the vfr.
