AMF years?

I know AMF took over after 1969 and that they built a new plant in 1974. Does that mean that the 1972 XLCH is built better and leaks less? I sold my 1997 Dyna and am looking to buy a 1972 sporty. I want an old school chopper style but one that has already been rebuilt and doesn´t need that much work.
