Cam Chain Tensioner Failure

I have a 1999 Triumph Sprint ST. At 17,000 miles the cam chain tenrioner came apart, causing serious engine damage. I am familar with at least one other similar failure on a bike with 22,000 miles. Triumph claims that they do not have a problem with the part, and is not willing to provide any ´goodwill warrenty´ for my bike. I am interested in wether others have experienced a similar part failure.
