The points housing also happens to be the left cam bearing. Pressurized oil is forced between the bearing surface and cam. There is also an oil seal directly behind the advance mechanism. normally this would keep the oil from escaping into the points housing. This seal probably needs replacing, but the cam bearings may also be worn allowing the cam to damage the seal in the first place. I would remove the housing, inspect the seal, cam and bearing surfaces and replace as necessary. |
