I remember laying out all of $1040 for my new ´71 H1. Picked it up at the dealer and drove it home. About a mile from the dealer´s I came to a stop light. Decided to see what the bike would do when it turned green. (You should know that my previous bike was a 305 Honda Scrambler--a rather different animal). Anyway, I got on it pretty hard off the line in 1st, then opened it in 2nd. The bike went almost straight vertical--stood up like nothing I had ever seen before. How I avoided totalling the bike with 000001.0 on the odometer I´ll never know, but I kept it under control. Once I learned how to control the bike, it was the most fun I have ever had on a motorcycle. Unbelieveable acceleration and speed, and the bike weighed under 400 pounds, meaning you needed to get waaaaaay up onto the tank to keep the front wheel down. I routinely raced and beat easily the baddest bikes of the day, all of which had 150- 250 cc on the H1. Ahhhhhh memories.....
