| Hey there. I´m a longtime motorcyclist(since the Army in the 80´s). I´ve always ridden Honda´s or Yamaha´s - but I´m in love with this 1970 BSA Thunderbolt. Here´s some info and questions: 1. I´m buying it from a guy in New York who sells vintage bikes. He clearly is established, well informed and reputable. 2. It´s in pretty good condition, could use some love on the chrome. I test drove it today - first time ever driving a British bike - the funny thing was - there are 5 gears - but when I was shifting down, it didn´t feel as though I was changing gears. That´s to say, it wasn´t an obvious "click" when I was go into another gear. 3. Now all my others bikes have been new, so of course, I´m concerned about this thing breaking down a lot and having trouble getting parts - what´s your (anyone´s) opinion about the durability, reliability etc., of these bikes. 4. The guy wants $2,500. Believe me I´ve been looking at British bikes for a long time. This bike needs love, but it does run. Should I go for it if I´m a British, Vintage bike newbie? p.s. I´m 5´7" woman and in pretty good shape, but the "kick start" did take a couple of kicks. Any info anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and take care, Karen |
