oil leak and smoke normal for rebuilt motor????

oil leak and smoke normal for rebuilt motor????

I have recently rebuilt my motor and have been told by several experts that a slight oil leak accompannied by some smoking is to be considered normal. This dosn´t seem exactly right to me. Please, can anyone advise whether this is correct or not.
