Stumbled across this discussion from Google, I bought a new ´68 in ´69 from the dealer in Milford, Connecticut, USA. I agree about the handling -- my first two-wheel drift! (And never one on any other bike!) That was one sweet, unforgettable ride. It would cruise all day at ninety and be happy as a post. The electrical system was out-of-date when it was built, but as it was a decent-enough source of sparks for a racing bike *which is what it was*, they just added primitive lights and a sort-of-muffler/expansion chamber for the street. A tip: keep a spare taillight bulb in the toolkit. The magneto uses the stoplight filament as ballast; this is a `feature´: an early brake light failure warning. ;o} Check the brake light bulb if you can´t figure out why it won´t start -- or suddenly stopped. I ran this bike hard and used nothing but Golden Spectro´s best 2-stroke oil at one ounce per gallon of gas. After 18,000 miles, out of boredom one winter, I took off the head just to inspect things, and the hone marks were still on the cylinder walls. This bike runs well on Golden Spectro! I´d love to obtain another, but the prices put me off. I paid US $675 for that Black and Silver sweetheart when new, and my only regret was selling it. |
