I traded a ´98 Honda XR250 for my same year Gas Gas Pampera. The Honda always seemed too tall with its motocross style suspension meant for high speed over rough terrain. Especially in the tight woods or rock crawling situations I like, it was just too big. The Pampera is the perfect answer. Unlike the XR with its motocross influence, the Pampera gets its genes from observed trials. (I know what I am talking about; my son has a pure trials Gas Gas TX270.) Consequently, the Pampera is light-probably close to 20% or 50lbs. lighter than the XR. And it is low, easily straddled or climbed around on. Don´t underestimate its suspension. For it´s intended use, it is even more impressive than that of the XR. Similarly, don´t underestimate the power. Packed into that tiny unit is a torquey, high compression 320cc engine. (A pain in the foot to kick start!) In summary I would say the Pampera is for a very different style of riding than the far more common bikes like the XR. Personally, I suspect many riders of XR type machines would be happier on Pampera types. Now, if we could only get the Pampera type with 4-stroke power... I suspect it is just a blink away. Another trials bike manufacturer, I think it is the Italian BETA, already has a toe in those waters with a Pampera style machine powered by a Suzuki 125cc 4-stroke. For the present, buy a Pampera and be pleasantly surprised with this delightful little motorcycle.
