| I just purchased my 98´ 1500 (July 2004). Has upgraded pipes and an after market windshield. Other than that, stock. I narrowed my choices between this bike and a 98´ Kawi 1500, which was pretty much loaded, including engine upgrades and 16,000 less miles than the Suzuki). The Suzuki was $2,100 less. Price was a major factor in the selection but honestly, I was sold when I sat on the bike. At 6´ 4" it seemed a little more fitting than the Kawisaki, and quite frankly, with the allow wheels and yellow paint job the styling is more retro/deco than the Kawi as well. I rode the bike home (125 miles) in 100+ temperature and loved every minute of it. The previous owner reminded me that the mileage is about 40 mpg and the tank is a little more than 3 gals (which I knew already). He was right, at an average 75 mph (and some 90+)I got exactly 40 mph. The bike hasn´t had a major tune up since purchased new (has 25,000 miles). The only thing I noticed from the first crank of the engine was more back firing than I´m accustomed to. Previous owner said that the "BUB" straight pipes has that effect no back pressure. I understand the effect of no back pressure but I still thought it was excessive. My question is, does anyone else have similar conditions with their straight pipes, and if so, is there something that can be done to minimize the back fire (other than controlliing throttle and high gear decel)? Also, The battery is exposed. Is there a cover that is supposed to be there or if not, can you by a battery cover? Any help or comments will be appreciated. If there are any other issue with the bike your comments and suggestions will be appreciated as well. Thank you, Kik |
