It could be a dead or bad cell in the battery, it COULD still read as a good battery yet not take a charge. I had one on my bike that would not go over 80 percent charged no matter how long it was on the charger. IT still started the bike and when tested at 3 parts store and a bike shop it tested as good, but it was a crap shoot every time I went on a ride weather or not it would fail.
