| Ok so I have one (vested interest) and I love it (prejustice) but it´s the sexiest bike I´ve ever owned and that´s NOT just my opinion. I´d had a few bikes from a Meriden Bonneville through XT 500/600´s, a YDS7 and Several 4 cylinder Suzuki´s plus Two Triumph 1200´s and a FJ1200. That´s before I rediscovered Harley in 2003 (I had a bad experience with an Aermachi back in ´76) I´ve done the BMW R1200RT thing too, ridden a few sports bikes and travelled overland From the UK to Malaysia. So I do know what I like. Anyway back to the Breakout. It´s as fast as I need it to be, keep my license and be alert for Road & License Hazards. It´ll cruise at 120kph and more when allowed, all day long. It´d ride Hwy 99 at 100mph, IF I was allowed to of course. It´ll take most curves without any drama if you´re prepared to slide your butt out of the saddle every once in a while to make up for the low ground clearance. I can ride it all day and comfortably cover 500-700 miles a day for several days straight. It´s VERY rare for any bike to pass me and even then I can keep up with all but the truly insane until they give up. An iron butt run wouldn´t bother me a bit, apart from the why. I´ve toured it from Vancouver in Canada to Death Valley via Denver CO and back to Vancouver BC without missing a beat. It´s not left me at the side of the road once in 30,000 km. I looks like a mild chop with it´s raked forks and a massive back tyre but still handles (remember the ground clearance though and look for compression points on fast bends). Don´t focus on the apex, that´s for the track and this is certainly NOT a track bike! Watch the vanishing point instead and if you don´t know what that is then just ride slower until you work it out. It has a 5 Gallon tank (unlike the current model) and that takes me past 200 kms, more if I´m in Rubberneck mode. Less obviously if I´m ripping up the Duffey Lake Road on a grand day with traffic to pass. As you can see I´m a fan of my Harley and so long as I keep off the real dirt roads and away from the track (I don´t like being passed) the 2012-17 (I think it changed in 2017) Breakout model is my perfect bike. |
