your bike is a 1980 model refered to as a z-1 classic or also a kz1000g1. It is the worlds first electronically fuel injected bike. I´ve read that due to warranty problems with the injection dealers were told by kawasaki to convert to carbs. I´ve never seen one that has carbs, in fact I´ve only ever seen one period. I owned it in the 80´s. Purchased it used in 1984. Awesome bike. I was in the army @ Ft.Riley Kansas when I purchased it at City Cycle Sales from owner Honey Grant (Yamaha dealer). Raced it at Little Apple dragstrip in Manhatten Kansas as well as regularly raced on street (young and fullish then) around Junction City and Manhatten Kansas. Bike was NEVER beaten on the street, regularly destroyed Yamaha V-Max´s, Suzuki Katana´s, other big block Kawi´s including a friends well worked 1260cc, as well as many street cars. Only time bike was ever beaten was by a rear engine dragster with a big block chevy. Z-1 left him in the mirrors for about the first 200 ft. or so then he blew by. Bike was so brutal I would slide to the rear of the seat nearly coming off and hands could barely hold onto grips. Bike went thru rear tires almost as fast as it went thru fuel. Would never hookup until well into 2nd gear with a soft compound Dunlop. Only mods were Kerker header, K&N filters, tweaked injectors and fuel pump, lower gearing thru sprocket change, air shifter and rear shocks were replaced with adjustable solid rods with heim joints. This bike was driven daily throughout most of the year, was driven to the top of Pikes Peak, and eventually ended up in Pennsylvania (riden there) were it continued to be raced at Beaver Springs Dragway, South Mountain Dragway, and Maple Grove Raceway. It was severely wrecked in the late 80´s when I was hit by a careless driver at which time the engine was salvaged for use in a dedicated custom framed dragbike and still continues to be raced today. The bike had nearly 30 thousand miles on it when wrecked, the bottom end had never been apart, and the fuel injection has always worked flawlessly, any temp., any elevation, etc. Bike would only get about 25mpg though. Wish I still had it in it´s original condition, would love to have another someday. Never failed to get attention / draw a crowd. Bike would pull from near idle without even a hiccup in second and even third gear sometimes depending on steepness of grade, incredible torque and a very strong mid range to top end. Don´t know how many were made (only 1 year), but couldn´t have been many. You definetely have something well worth holding onto. Pretty much everything on the bike will interchange with std. big block kawi parts with the exception of the cylinder head and the injection system.
