Commenting on the Z1R |

I have had (and still have) several air-cooled Kawasaki big-bore sport bikes. The Z1R has been particularly endearing to me and I´m not soo sure why. Maybe b/c it is the same age as my wife (ha!); but more likely b/c of it´s "flaws". Seems like Harley riders characterize their bikes with a ´soul´ and we all know how impossible that is. However, there is still something about certain motorcycles that make us want to keep them. My Z1R falls into this catagory as it has been in my garage the longest. I have even purchased other Z1Rs and modified them in different capacities. Harleys have lots of design flaws and their owners seem to embrace the flaws as part of the bike´s character. Maybe that´s why I like the Z1R so much. The thing wobbles like a hinge when pressed hard thru the corners, and ´that´ is what the thing was marketed to do: corner! Oh well, every time I park the thing I just look at it and think to myself ´well, we´re both still alive, and at least the bike still looks good´; truly a timeless sport bike. Cheers! |
