Front disc brake not working

Hi i purchased the bike in Oct 2007,till now there is no problem with the disc brake..but now my front disc brake is not working.are the disc plates worn out or brake fluid needs to be replaced.wat might be the exact problem?and also what is the period for the replacement of the brake fluid
