a gas turbine engine is nothing like a car or motorcycle engine. They are made up of spinning blades in several stages to compress air which is then heated. this compressed air is then used to turn two turbines, one of which drives the compressor, the other is the power turbine that turns the shaft and provides power to the wheel. The maintenence costs of these engines are ludicrous, but they do make awesome power.
