tougher than that!! said 2003-11-30 21:51 |
There may have been some difference with uk tune bikes or I may have been lucky bu tI have a different story. I bought my 1971 B50SS in 1980, and ran it for 2 years. In that time it broke chains (3 times) and spewed oil from the timing chest when held at 90mph for more than 10min! The front brake was crap (the design basics were okay but the leverage was all wrong!) However it was so stiff it handled in a crisp sharp fashion that was exactly where you wanted it. The engine was unbeleivably violent for only 33hp, but not too hard to start with the decompressor and a good swing. I miss it and as regards tough.. I dropped a valve chasing one of the first LC250´s. I was over 70mph in 3rd gear and it coasted for almost a mile! When I stripped it there was a cross shaped hole through the piston and the head looked bruised but the little & big ends, rod, mains & bore were all fine. New piston & valve some smoothing down & it started first (maybe!) kick. Sold it coz 33bhp was not enough, it still isn´t but I miss that bike. Jon G |
