I went to a swap meet ten years ago to buy some kind of British crap. Didn´t see anything I liked. As I was leaving spotted this little ragged incomplete looking single with clip-ons. It looked almost complete, so I asked what was missing. The seller said "nothing, it´s all there and all original". Didn´t know anything about the bike or its history, but it started, and it looked good, so I bought it for $1400 AUS. Got the bike home, pulled it apart within 20 minutes, and then spent 2 years restoring it. Been riding it ever since. Goes great! Gets heaps of giggles from onlookers. But they soon stop giggling when they see it take off like a bullet. So goes my 1968 Bultaco Machine Gun. Had a Ducati 350 Desmo for a while, but it just wasn´t the same. The Duc´ went really well in a straight line, but felt like riding a sponge compared to the Metralla; so I sold the Duc´! Here´s some pointers on Metralla´s.

The electrics are fine, really. The easiest thing to rectify the bulbs blowing is to simply fit a 12 volt bulb in the tail light. rev that little **** any which way, the bulb won´t blow! In fact for some strange reason fitting a 12 volt hallogen bulb to the headlight produces a brighter light! Don´t ask, it´s a Bultaco!. If you got the time, tear out the existing wiring and re-wire the entire bike with a heavier grade wire. 5 amp wire is better than the standard 3 amp. It´s a really simple task.

As for things shaking to pieces. Tighten your bolts a little bit more. They´re obviously too loose.

If anyone wants a really good Metralla contact me at artmn@hotmail.com

Happy riding,

Adam
