i have a ´99 rebel that gets 85-95 mpg. i have gotten 117 mpg but that was at 30-40 mph and the trip was too long. i have 5800 mi on it since buying it last summer. have changed the oil 3x but have not had the valves checked because it sounds alright and runs without missing a beat. i only run it at 45-55 on the highway but that is the way i am. i want it to last for 100,000 mi and would like to know from someone more experienced if that is realistic. i have been pulled over twice for going too slow and have also ridden it for a mile or so at 72+ mph - never missed a beat. had one flat tire from a nail and did not like the feeling of helplessness on the side of the road. the thing goes NOWHERE with a flat tire. that fear has limited my traveling with this otherwise very hardy bike. i will visit this site again and look for other comments from other riders who might have had more experience. i have not seen another rebel up here in the marquette mich area. it´s lonely. tom
