| I own a typhoon 125cc Two stroke. I ve read somewhere that it should go at 60 miles per gallon. Mine gives me 52 miles to the gallon (assuming that 4.55 litres are 1 gallons ie b ritish measurement)NB: The americans measure a gallon as 3.79 litres. I believe that there can never be a correct answer. The only thing I know is that mikuni carbs (that is as far as 125cc 2strokes are concerned) have very sensitive needles which are prone to malfunctions as soon as dirt comes into play. You will feel that your engine is running on a richer mixture but perhaps you wouldnt mind the consumption as long as the engine doesnt break up. From normal intake up till (the flood situation) there is another 8% fuel intake that can be digested by tour engine without it being upset. Once this percentage is exceeded the engine floods in an instant manner which can be dangerous especially if you are driving uphill at a fair turn of speed. That happened to me a few weeks ago and it was quite scary as the event happens abruptly and i didnt have time time to react appropriately and the rear wheel locked itself for some reason. Back to the issue of consumption. according to the haynes manual there is a chart of spark plug conditions.The steps are the following. Check the condition of the spark plug and see whether it is correct or not. If the spark plug indicates the correct type of condition (that is a light brown tan)you can then work out the consumption and you really dont have to worry about the consumption the result you get should be exactly what your machine needs for its normal operational function. Another factor that effects the fuel consumption is the automatic choke whioch can tends to get itself stuck especially by cold starts. The automatic choke increases the fuel mixture by an additional 3%. Automatic chokes should be checked at least once a year. If your machine has got a mikuni carb I suggest to clean the filter every month regardless of mileage. Thrust me dust sooth from other vehicles will end up into your carburettor needle sooner then you will expect. I would really like to know your current fuel consumption. That will be of great help as I havent talked to anyone about typhoon fuel consumption. Perhaps I myself get some indication of where I stand. Im pretty sure that currently my fuel mixture is quite rich my spark plug at least says so. Whil thanking you I shall be looking forward to hear back from you. |
