| After owning several bikes, sports and cruisers. I decided to splash the cash on a Victory Vegas 8 Ball 2008. It´s had one owner who decided it wasn´t for him, and with just 380 miles on the clock the bike was mint. I can honestly say that it´s the best bike I have ever owned. From the bold Arlen & Cory Ness design, and amazing black paintwork the bike is constantly turning heads, and getting people stopping to ask who is Victory? Here in Essex, there a very few of these bikes on the road, so it´s definately unusual. For what is, quite a large and heavy machine, the bike handling in impressive. With good quality forks and mono-shock at the rear, I have quickly found that the bike can be controlled quite easily. DUe to it´s low slung design, it´s more than easy to scrape the pegs, but they are folding and have the replaceable screw in studs, so that helps!! Roundabouts have to be taken at a reasonable speed, to avoid hitting the pegs, but it can be done. Other than that handling is a dream. The 1634cc V twin Freedom engine pulls like you´d expect it to. I have yet to stress it, as I have only reached 950 miles, but the engine feels like it´s got loads of torque, and acceleration is impressive for a cruiser of this size. All the mudgauards front/rear are metal, as you´d expect at this level of motorcycle. The finish on the frame is, well, better than a certain other US bike maker. My only critisisms so far would be,The layed back warning lights, are a little hard to see in bright sunlight. The solo seat is a little small, I feel like my backside wants to seat back another couple of inches. Aside from that, the stock exhausts do make the bike purr like a kitten rather than roar like a big V twin of this size should. But there are plenty of upgrade systems available, so this can be overcome. The 5 speed gearbox changes up and down without fuss, with the usual positive clunks that you will be used to if you´ve owned a Harley Davidson. In conclusion, if you fancy something different, but would like a US bike, then this could be a great prospect. To me, they don´t rival Harley´s, as nobody could ever do that. What Victory have done, is introduce a whole new American motorcycle, which has it´s own identity, and I think a growing fan base worldwide. It feels a little more special than perhaps some of the Japanese/metric cruisers, which, seem to finish everything in plastic rather than metal,and whilst beautiful in their own right, just seem to lack the credibility.
