Do yourself a favour. Read my review of the 2003 SV650S. See if you can find a slightly older 2000 or 1999 model. Buy some frame sliders if you are afraid of dropping it, but these are forgiving bikes, easy to ride slow, and well beyond legal speeds. It is my first bike as well, I am 30 years old, 6´1", and 225lbs. It has plenty of pull, and with an MSF course way cheaper insurance than a 600CC crotch rocket. Once you have rode for a while buy the lower fairngs, and rear tail section (www.sharkskinz.com) and you will have a bike that looks way cooler than the cookie cutter crotchrockets. I find if you took the logos off of those bikes you could not tell them apart anyways. Your bike would look unique, and the money you save on insurance, can get you some pretty cool upgrades and gear. 3.6 seconds 0-60 instead of 3.3, well not too many stoplights you can go 0-60 anyways. Best of luck with it.
