Gearing |

Every bike and nearly every car is over geared. After hours of analysis, calculation and estimation I have decided on gearing between 10.4 miles/1000rpm and 12.5/1000rpm. Stock is 9. So I have bought 36 and 38 rear sprockets (here in the UK). With the 15 that gives approx equal gaps to test. A 14 gets me 9.75 which is too close, 17/36 for 400 mile days and possibily even 3rd gear cruising. It will give me choices to get out of a vibe zone. 16 not needed as matches 17/15/38/36 combinations. I am not worried about burning out the clutch or lugging the engine: I can drive & understand the physics in there. I will be doing 1000 miles per week on vacations within the limits of 3 month visas. Yet to buy bike. I have 200 hrs online research on this and KLR650 - which I will buy later in my 4 year Americas Safari plan. |
