Hello there! I´m thinking about buying a 1991 FXDB Sturgis. I´m afraid I´m not really a technical highstand, so I´d like some advice from you, dear 1991-Sturgis riders. I noticed these bikes seem to be quite reliable, but I keep wondering if the mileage has a great influence on the general condition of this kind of bike? The thing is: I know one for sale with 31,000 miles for US$ 11,500 (meaning 9,000 Euro), with changed frontforks ( mark ´Ölins´) and changed rear springs (mark ´Wirth´). -Anyone familiar with these marks?- Another one, which has only 6,300 miles, very well kept and in complete original condition (except from the Screaming Eagle air filter). This bike is actually owned by a bike-collector and he´s asking 19,000 US$ (15,000 Euro) for it. I think this is rather expensive, but I must add that prices overhere (Western Europe) are regulary between 13,000 $ - 21,000$ for a ´91 Sturgis. As you can see, there´s a rather big difference in price between these two bikes. So, I was wondering, should it be a high risk to go for the 31,000 miles-bike, knowing that I´m not a technical superhero at all...? I would be very pleased if I could get some tips about things to watch out for, when inspecting a 91 Sturgis for buying. Thank you a lot! Ride free. Geert |
