I bought this scooter in Feb 2007. I live in Japan and with gas prices going up I wanted something other than my car to get around when I was on my own. It has exceeded all my expectations. I´ve done about 6,000km since Feb. riding in temperatures ranging from 5?C to 38?C and it has been incredibly reliable. It always starts first time and I haven´t even changed the brake pads yet. Kymco´s reliabilty comes from having a factory built by Honda, and from years of producing Honda parts and scooters. The engine in the Super9 is a modified Honda engine. Although top speed is indicated as 80km/h on the speedo, actually it´s only about 72km/h. The speedo is less accurate at higher speeds. Still it´s fast enough and there are many after-market parts if you want to go faster! Some people I know are getting around 105km/h (12hp) on their fully kitted S9s, without sacrifcing reliability. So far, I´ve only added a Power Pulse System, MFR multi-variator, tighter clutch springs and centre spring and a kevlar belt. This slightly improved the top end but also gave me a lot more torque, which is useful if you live in a mountainous area, like me! The handling is superb and sometimes I forget that I´m on a scooter. The front and rear disc brakes are also excellent. If you live in a hot country, I strongly recommend getting the liquid-cooled version as I´ve had no issues whatsoever, even on long trips. There is plenty of storage space under the seat, enough to take a full-face helmet and some other stuff. I also have a seat bag, designed for regular bikes, that fits nicely over the grab rails. OEM parts are also stocked right here in Japan, and will arrive the day after you order them, and are similarly priced to domestic parts. One of the reasons I didn´t get an Italian scooter is that some people I know have often had to wait weeks for a part to be shipped from Italy, and they´re usually damned expensive. Most people will just use this scooter for shooting around town but I take mine on long rides most weekends. Even with all the hills here in Japan I regularly go on 200km+ trips, and have done a couple of 350km+ rides. The seat is pretty comfortable for a scooter so your butt doesn´t get too numb as long as you take a break every hour or so! On long trips, I usually average about 26-28 km/l (73-79 mpg), which isn´t bad for a 2-stroke. The scooter has really come into it´s own this summer. There´s a beach I love going to, about 75km from my place. The road there gets really crowded during the school holidays. Unbelievable as it sounds, I can cut my journey time almost in half on the Super9, compared to going by car. It´s great not being stuck in traffic! The only negative comment I have is regarding the lights which are a little dim at low revs. I intend to change over to HID bulbs in the headlights, and LEDs for the rear lights and indicators, which will reduce the draw on the battery.
