2005 Kymco People is stalling and clock doesn´t work

I am looking at a 2005 Kymco People 50, it has 67 miles on it and is in excellent cosmetic shape. The asking price is $1299.

When I test drove it, the electric start didn´t work - I had to kick start it which seemed to work fine. The clock doesn´t work (the digits aren´t complete characters, only the bottom half illuminate). The lights, blinkers, and horn work fine. It accelerated fine, but after a short distance, it sputtered and stalled. I had to re-kickstart it. then it was fine. I test drove it again and I drove for nearly a mile and a half without any trouble before it decided to stall again. And, again, it kick-started back to life.

Whats the deal? Does it need a new battery, fresh gas (could be old from all winter), more (or new) oil?

I don´t know much about mechanics, but if this is a simple solution, would love to buy this scooter.

Please feel free to email me with any suggestions at cmoncell@gmail.com or just reply to this thread.
