Mudflap installation on front fender ?

I was thinking of installing a mudflap on the front fender of my Kymco Nexxon 125 in order to prevent excess water being directed from the front wheel on to the engine. The factory front fender is too narrow to cope with the splashing from the front wheel. My question is will the mudflap affect the air cooling of the engine?
Can anybody please advise?
