Having owned a Kymco Hipster for just over thirty months; I have decided never to buy an other Kymco motorcycle. Disapointed by the way the performance changed with the weather and often finding myself struggling to keep up with motorway traffic when the tempurature was dropping and the dew point was high I had a carb heater fitted but it didn´t help any. Only by puting a fuel addative in the the tank could I obtain something like reliability during the winter months and early morning runs. Intending to replace the sponge air filter with the recomended paper one; I was dissapointed to discover that neither the dealer, supplyer, or Kymco, could supply the said filter. The turn round for parts supply was painfully slow and the cost of labour for the bike was high. I am presently stripping the gear box and replacing one of the drive gear cogs. The cost at the motorcycle shop would have been £500 for labor only. You may say " Why not trade it in?" Well!, only several months after paying £2250 for my nice new bike: I was offered £1000 part exchange. Just couldn´t afford the loss. At present, the trade in price is mutch lower and I would prbably get more for it by breaking it for spares, but I intend running the bike untill it just gives up the ghost all together. Initialy, I thought that the Hipster was a fine, value for money, 125cc motorcycle and would have liked to have seen Kymco produce a 250cc version. Having purchased and owned Honda motorcycles over the last thirty years; I will be returning to my little Japanese friends for my next purchase. That is if Kymco have not put me off motor cycling for life :( Ride safely; see you on the road :) |
