2001 Dyna Wide Glide Speedometer Failure

I´ve owned my Dyna for about 15 months. The speedometer would sometimes stop working for a brief second, then it would properly indicate the speed once again. This happened every time I rode the bike but friends/mechanics told me that since the bike ran like a dream, just keep riding it. Now the speedo had completely stopped. Before I take it to the Harley dealer, does anyone know why the speedo is doing this? Can this be fixed by me by replacing a fuse, etc?
