I´ve had my 2007 GT250R for over 2 years now after my 1991 ZZR250 (EX25). It´s a good bike for what it is. Solid engine and good looks. There are some build quality issues that need to be addressed from Hyosung, but overall they´ve done a good job. If you´re looking at buying one, please consider the following. Problems that I´ve encountered: 1. Clutch cable snapping (on earlier models including my 2007 at around 8,000km or above, rectified by thicker clutch cable Au$30) 2. Weak fairing mount nuts. The nuts welded onto the fairing mounts are extremely weak. If you work on your bike a lot (taking panels off and putting them back on), the thread in the nuts shreds easily. I will attempt to remove the nuts on my bike and replace them with replaceable clip on nuts. Kawasaki uses clip on nuts. 3. Phillips head screws that hold sump filter in place shreds easily (possibly due to engine heat wear). I replaced my ones with socket wrench bolts. 4. Stock mirrors provide restrctive view. I replaced my ones with aftermarket CBR900 mirrors from ebay. Most of these issues can be overlooked or rectified through some means. Once you get past them it really is a great bike. I´ve ridden the bike from Canberra to Brisbane and back (alone) without any major troubles with the exception of the clutch adjuster bolt coming loose. Could have been my fault for not tightening it hard enough after I replaced the weaker clutch cable or engine vibration cauing it to come loose. Apart from that it was an enjoyable ride. Riding position is unideal for touring, but I was able to do 200-300km at a time with no problems. Engine revs a bit high 8,000rpm at 110km/h, but it´s a 250cc with 5 gears so I´m not expecting it to cruise at low revs. It gave me around 3.5l/100km on the highway. |
