On the foot plat from there is a small plate that you can lift. Apx 4 Inch Square; held in place by a screw. Remove screw and lift the plate, its held in place by 2 lugs.

If your battery is flat there will be a reason why its flat, battery not charging? Something shorted?

You always have the Kick start on the side of the engine/belt casing!
