Straight pipes? That does not sound very good. Too sharp and loud. One of the 1200 Sportster mufflers will slip on with a very thin shim since they are about the same diameter. Mounting supports would need modification as well. I don´t reccommend it unless you are ready to spend some time and effort in rejetting the main jet and adjusting the needle, which requires considerable patience in removing the tank and carb multiple times to "read" the spark plug, test runs, and switching the jet, etc. I like the mellow sound of the Savage just the way it is. Better spend your time, if it is new, on the 600 mile service, which involes a lot, especially if yours is one of those requiring removeal of the engine to re-tourque the head bolts. I´d get a manual. It seems manufacuring tolerences of the frame can cause the nescesity of engine removal in some cases. The stock muffler is tuned to give good bottom-end response, which is good in a long stroke engine where piston speeds can reach alarming rates at higher RPM.
