2001 Triumph Legend TT Carb Adjustment Knob Question |

Hi, I have a 2001 Legend and am having problems starting it after it sat idle for a few years. I have dropped the tank, drained all the fuel, changed the oil, replaced the battery and all the easy stuff. I put Sea Foam into the tank with new fuel to clear up (hopefully) any gunk in the lines/carbs but I am unable to get it to start and run consistently. When the choke is full, it will catch and run for a few seconds (dies if I hit the throttle) and sounds like all 3 carbs are firing. With the choke off, I was able to get it to start and run for about 30 seconds with the throttle wide open (it got to about 4000 RPM) before it stalled. On the side of the carbs, it has an adjustment knob. Like an idiot, I have been twisting it forwards and backwards (five turns forward, try to start, any better? No, then spin it five turns back) hoping to find a miracle that will make it work. Unfortunately, I donĀ“t know what the various turns in each direction are actually doing and how much they are doing it. Does anyone know what this knob actually does internally and if turning it one way increases the fuel and/or air mix (and which way is which)? Thanks for any help you can provide and/or if you have any other suggestions for getting it running consistently (other than take it to the dealer who wants $1,500 for a carb rebuild on it)? |
