Loud tapping sound when running.

I just bought a 2002 Suzuki GSX-R600. When I start it makes a loud tapping noise when it´s running and when you rev it, it get´s even louder. I read somewhere that it could be not enough oil get to the lifters or it´s just not adjusted properly. Does it sound like that would be the problem to you? If so, can you give me any advice as how to go about fixing the problem.
