The bike sat for 20 years and I changed all fluids and did a bunch of small things to get it running and it ran well for about 100 miles but there was an occasional noise like a transmission bearing in high gear and I would pull the clutch and slow and it would go away and I could get it back in high gear and cruise but then it started making more noise and the engine bogging down like it was tight and even locked up for a second at slow speed and then freed.

I removed and disassembled the transmission and found a small spring washer between gears was broken and replaced it and reassembled. Each transmission bearing seemed good and smooth to the feel. When I started it the noise was loud and continuous and I didn’t want to run it like that or drive it for fear of really damaging something. It seemed like it may be an engine issue and the engine seems tight with plugs out and turning over by hand With pipe wrench on front of crankshaft in neutral or in gear turning the rear wheel or cranking with a good battery.

The noise is so bad I don’t want to try and start it again and I will remove the engine and transmission again and see if there is something in the engine that is freezing somewhat. Oil pump seems ok and the pressure light was off but I’m wondering if that engine tends to have crankshaft main bearing issues as I took one jug off and both connecting rods seemed good and I see both side valves work freely.

Any thoughts? Shoot me an email to make sure I get any response.
Thanks
