My 02 fatboy EFI started to miss with any throttle increase..I was able to get home..bought a new HD hose and female quick disconnect.. 35 bucks.. ( goes from gas tank installed pressure regulator to externally mounted female disconnect ) made male disconnect from Hoffman air hose male plug ( copy existing male fitting ) with these parts you can add some high pressure hose and clamps a 0 to 100 PSI gauge and a brass drain valve to relieve gas pressure.. This unit is piped to mount in line with the existing tank outlet female connector to the female end of test unit where you plug in the existing male fitting to the injector. With the valve closed!! turn on fuel system ( no need to run engine ) a few cycles to prime system.. check gauge reading.. It should be over 60 PSI.. If it is not.. you could have a hole in the nylon hoses inside the gas tank.. They are made of ripple hose like a vacuum or pool hose and as you will see on the 35 buck hose on the test unit under pressure they GROW LONGER like the garden hose on TV.. This is not GOOD as every 60 plus psi cycle ( start stop ) if the hose is near anything inside the gas tank it WILL rub and wear... My gauge was reading about 45 PSI about 20 PSI LOW.. Now the gas tank needs to be opened and the fuel pump, level indicator fuel regulator all needs to be removed.. The long 35 buck hose connection is not easy to remove on a fatboy or other soft tail, as the tank opening is small.. There is a spring on the level float which mounts with a spring.. which I find is best to remove the top of the spring with a stiff bent wire... I thought about running the pump on gas and since there is a relief port on the regulator I thought that would be crazy!!!! But what works is removing the hose from the pump to the regulator and installing a air hose to the regulator and connect the test gauge to the regulator line that goes to the tank outlet fitting... NOT THE OPEN PRESSURE RELIEF OUTLET..with the air on it dumps air out of this outlet... the gauge read 45 PSI.. this regulator was made by Weber and is PLASTIC it had a crack on a lower mounting tab which lowered the desired spring pressure to 45 PSI!!! The part costs 17 bucks! My bike had about 30,000 miles on it and it was about 2007.. My other problem was about ALL the paint inside the tank was coming off, pieces up to 2\ |
