| Hi, my name is Nick, and I am the uncertain owner of a 2003 Moto Guzzi California Stone. I bought the machine back in October 2004, and have been faced with a number of recurring faults ever since. There are two that I find particularly irritating. Firstly, when I top with fuel I have to ensure I run the bike long enough so that the level of petrol goes down far enough, so that when I stop and put it on its stand, the fuel doesn´t force its way past the cap and run down the side of the tank forming a nice combustible puddle. Secondly I am now onto my fourth battery in three and a half years, and at £80 a time, its a tad on the expensive side, especially when I have to purchase the acid as well. My main gripe, however concerns what happened last September when my partner and I decided to ride from St. Malo, France, down to Marbella, Spain for our holiday. Bearing in mind that my machine is was jst coming up to its third birthday, and I had done only 2000 miles since acquiring it (giving it a total of 4000 miles on the clock), I was expecting a pretty trouble free tour all the way down and back. Unfortunately, after only a day and a half, and just over four hundred miles, we ground to a noisy halt in Vitorio Gasteiz, Spain. Luckily we found a Signor who was conversant with Guzzi´s and he gladly offered to help, or at least that is what I think he said as he spoke no english. To cut a long story short, and with aid of his english speaking son, we were informed that the bucket at the base of one of the push rods had sheared off, therby allowing the rod itself to hit, and chip, its corresponding cam lobe. We were also informed that it was a known Guzzi fault and should have been rectified through a recall. Having RAC European cover, what a blessing that organisation is, I had the diagnosis double checked, and the findings were confirmed. The bike was going nowhere and had to be shipped back to my address in the UK. The bike has been back in my garage since November, and having attempted to find help through various sources, as yet I have had no joy. I am getting desperate because I wish to get the bike fixed so that I can get rid of it....sorry!!!! I even tried 3 Legged Cross, the place I bought the bike from, but was told that they no longer sold Moto Guzzi´s, and they could not help. Can anybody out there please point me in the right direction. Thanks for taking the time to read my problem. |
