A couple of weeks ago I sold my 2001 Hayabusa, and bought a 2000 R1 hoping to have fun in the twisties again, but suffered a rude awakening.
Earlier this week, I had a nasty tankslapper going around a choppy corner on my ยด00 R1, exiting at about 120-130km my front end skipped and jumped causing the above incident. The bike and I survived a violent situation, and I am now wondering if I should get a steering damper? Which brand and style is best for this bike, or should I just slow down. I expect with the damper, I will push it harder and not survive the next one. Any input would be appreciated. Already contemplating a Goldwing or something more sedate as an alternative. For the record, the R1 does roll into corners quicker and easier, but the Busa did have stability, comfort, and smoothness, wrapped up in an unfortuantly bulbous looking package. Had it the lines of the R1 and the handling, it may have been the ultimate sport bike. Anyway, what steering damper do I need here?
