Oil Leak |

Went on a 3000 mile excursion to Key West ... Ride was GREAT !! but I noticed that the engine was running hot so on the way back I stopped at Daytona Harley to get an oil temp gage and noticed my oil level was way down.... I added 2 quarts ( synthetic ) ...hmm no appearent oil leaks under the bike around the heads ect... I asked a sharp minded mechanic and he told me about a Harley Service Notice that said the valve seals arent doing its job and using more than the normal amount of oil, ( that was the jest of the Service Notice). He told me to change my plugs and take a quart of oil with me until I get back to my homeland Harley dealer.... did that and I had the seals replaced... but the story doesnt stop there.. Last night I went for my 10K mile check up and told Harley that it was still using oil, went on a trip out west, and fouling plugs. Harley told me there is an addendum to the original Service Notice and the valve seals that were originally used as a replacement were better but not doing the job... so there are "New and Improved" valve seals that will be installed on my bike.... other than that I love the ride.... Keep an eye on your dip stick and dont let your resevoir go dry... hope this helps!!! Regards, Rick |
