would you take a chance on this bike? advice please! |

2001 Ducati 996. 1200km on the clock. Bought by a rich kid whose dad made him take it back two months after purchase, about october 2001, and bought him a Porsche instead because it was "safer"! Been sitting in a showroom ever since. Not been crashed, although a couple of small chips in the paintwork where it´s been (gently by the looks of it) dropped. Oil now looks like treacle, and the tyres have gone a bit brittle and will need changing in my mind. They´re asking about US$10,000 for it, but they want to get rid of it and I´m tempted to offer them about half that. Low mileage, pretty mint. But what problems might I have with a bike that´s been sitting around for so long without being properly looked after? At first glance, I would say that flushing out the brakes with clean fluid and the engine with clean oil a couple of times, and changing the timing and drive chains in case they´ve got stiff, would put in in a decent state to actually start it up and give it a run, then change all the fliuds again aftyer a few miles. But then again, I know nothing! Any advice please? |
