The round case 750SS is the earlier and less common of the two. The latter square case models had a different cam drive mechanism, an oil filter and electroic ignition. The running gear was different too. The forks were Ceriani rather than Marzocchi. The brake calipers on the round cases were Scarab (not sure of the spelling) and the fuel tanks were made of fibre glass rather than steel. The round case tank had a clear stripe down the side so that you could see how much fuel remained. It was also a bigger tank and a different shape. The square cases had a larger alternator and a two wire regulator (three wire on the round case).

The round cases were right hand gear shift, whereas I think the square case could be both.

Lastly, from what I remember, the square cases came with air filters, the round cases with velocity stacks and wire mesh stone guards only.
